The Real Cost Of Corvette Ownership Revealed

It's as simple as a car note, insurance, and gas, right? Before burning all that rubber, slow down to consider all the costs of owning this icon!

The Chevrolet Corvette is like the American exotic, a car that blends muscle elements with sports car performance, and one that is now finally mid-engined. It's meant to be a car to compete with foreign racers, even crossing the checkered flag first, but at a fractional cost as opposed to such models. Today perhaps the lines between muscle and sports car are blurred, as is what a 'Vette is, compared to what it used to be.

Nevertheless, with a long and constant production, there remains a 'Vette for all. Considering costs, budget, performance, and preferences, surely this is true. Spanning the generations from the C1 to the C8, any enthusiast can encounter and obtain a piece of this American sports car icon. It all just depends on what is desired. However, getting that attainable car is only the beginning. The joy of driving the car, involves more than meets the eye at face value, to keep those smiles per gallon rolling.

These are annual and monthly costs for the most part, but the one constant cost that will be felt the most frequently is fueling the gas guzzler, the designation that also results in its separate tax on a new purchase. As of September 25th of this year, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the U.S. was $3.84 per gallon.

Given that most Corvettes run on premium fuel from the factory, without any sort of E85 tune for example, today's cost per gallon is likely over four dollars a gallon for most. No one buys a performance sports car the efficiency, although Corvette's can be surprisingly efficient relative to the performance.

Still, a 2023 C8 will get 24 miles per gallon on the freeway, and 19 combined at most. The annual fuel cost from the base model to Z06 ranges from $3,050 to $5,100. Of, course the real cost will vary depending on actual use, but it's no secret that driving a Corvette will put a dent in the wallet, especially if used in more of a daily driver scenario.

But gas and insurance are just the tip of the iceberg.
