C8 Owner Shows Off And Pays For It

The mid-engine platform in the C8 Corvette is fantastic for traction, but that can backfire when attempting to show off with some donuts, as demonstrated by the individual behind the wheel of the C8 Corvette Stingray featured in the following video.

Making the rounds recently on social media, the video is just a few seconds long, but that is all it takes for this driver to turn their new C8 Corvette Stingray into a collision repair bill.

The video opens on a two-lane road out in the country, where we see several people standing around, checking out the C8 Corvette. The Vette slowly rolls down the shoulder, its headlights on during what appears to be the early evening. A few other cars roll by as the C8 Corvette driver idles on the side of the road.

Suddenly, after we see a car pass on the left, the C8 Corvette driver nails the throttle, cranking the steering wheel over the left. The rear end of the Corvette slides out, pirouetting the Vette into the adjacent lane, two black streaks left on the pavement behind it.

So far, so good. Not exactly the most impressive display of driving skill of all time, but at least the Corvette didn’t hit anything. But that is when things start to go wrong.

With the steering wheel still cranked to the left, the Corvette corners around until it is perpendicular to the two-lane road. The driver then stabs the throttle again. However, the throttle application is not enough to get the rear end sideways, and instead, the C8 Corvette plows forward right into a mailbox, and barely missing a nearby pickup truck.

The video cuts out shortly after the Corvette luckily stops within inches of a Chevy S10. Either way, that has gotta be pretty embarrassing for all involved. Moral of the story . . . do not attempt donuts on public roads lined by parked cars and people.
