242 MPH
The Texas Mile is one of, if not the premier, automotive event for standing mile racers in the United States.
First held in 2003, this bi-annual exhibition of speed and horsepower has slowly become the mecca for owners of
tuned sports cars and exotics like the Chevy Corvette, Ford GT and Lamborghini Huracán – allowing them to open the
taps on their hugely powerful cars without the fear of getting a ticket or going to jail.
The spring edition of the 2022 Texas Mile was held at the Chase Field Industrial Complex in Beeville, Texas last weekend,
with a twin-turbocharged C6 Corvette Carbon Edition taking the overall win in the notoriously competitive standing-mile event.
The ‘Vette in question was built by expert GM tuner Andy Mages of Plano, Texas-based shop ADM Performance and features a 400
cubic-inch LME block and two turbochargers, among other upgrades. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to dig up a complete parts list
for this Corvette, so if any readers are more familiar with the build, feel free to share your intel in the comments.
As the video embedded below demonstrates, this is one seriously fast standing-mile machine. After a rather slow roll away from
the line, Marshall opens the taps on his 2011 Corvette Carbon Edition, with the sports car remaining calm and composed as he short
shifts to ensure the wheels don’t slip and overheat the tires. Marshall goes on to clock in at 140 mph in the quarter-mile, 184 mph
in the half-mile and 242.7 mph in the standing mile. Some enthusiasts might note that this top end is 2.6 mph faster than the McLaren
F1’s recorded top speed of 241.1 mph, which made it the fastest production car in the world from 1993 to 2005 – when it was eclipsed by
the quad-turbocharged, 1,000-horsepower Bugatti Veyron. We imagine this ‘Vette would keep on pulling if it had the space, too, but Marshall
is forced to back out of the throttle after hitting the mile marker.
