Award-Winning 1969 Chevy Corvette Headed To Auction
The 1969 Chevy Corvette is just sharp. That second year of the Shark body, minimally adorned, with those sexy, flowing curves and Coke-bottle shape, is the last of the Corvettes designed with style over function, aerodynamics be damned. The Stingray moniker returned for the 1969 model year after a single-year absence, but was now a single word, as opposed to the previous generation's Sting Ray.
This beautiful '69 Chevy Corvette was delivered new in California in December of 1968. It was equipped with Regular Production Order (RPO) L71, the 427 cubic-inch, 435-horsepower V8 with the Tri-Power (three two-barrel carburetors) setup, and a four-speed close-ratio transmission. Other options included the F41 Special Front and Rear Suspension, the optional painted hardtop, power steering, power brakes, AM-FM radio, tinted glass, alarm, headrests, and redline tires.
The paint on this Chevy Corvette is in stunning condition. There are few colors that do more for the curves of this generation of Chevy Corvette than Cortez Silver. The finish on this Corvette is nearly flawless. The gleaming paint is graciously complemented by the brilliant chrome and stainless. Glass is crystal clear, and the weatherstrip is as new.
Beneath the bulging hood, we find the legendary L71 427, housed in an as-new engine bay. Everything is as it should be here: no dirt or grease to be seen, ignition shielding in place and gleaming, even the A.I.R. pump is as it should be. The air cleaner cover has been autographed by the Godfather of the Corvette himself, Zora Arkus-Duntov.
The black vinyl interior of this Chevy Corvette is almost new, save for a very slight wrinkling of the seat bottoms. There is no appreciable sign of wear. The seats and the carpet are both colorfast. Heel scuffs at the door sills are nearly nonexistent. All finishes present as new or nearly so.
This Chevy Corvette is a brilliant example of the marque, as its extensive list of National Corvette Restorers Society awards attest. It has won the Duntov Mark of Excellence Award, the Sam Folz Memorial Award and the NCRS Founders Award. It is accompanied by all of the awards, history, documentation, and the original bill of sale. This Corvette will be on offer at the March 18-20, 2021 Mecum Auction in Glendale, AZ.
