Two New C8 Special Editions Now Available, But . . .
The C8 has ushered in plenty of Corvette firsts, including first mid-engined production model, first hybrid and first to be equipped with all-wheel drive. And in countries like Japan, that drive on the left, the fact that the C8 is the first model to be available from the factory in right-hand drive must be helping lure buyers to the brand.
Now Japan's Chevy team has two more Corvette ideas to snare sports car buyers, in the form of a pair of special edition C8s, each limited to just 35 units. Both are based on the base 495 hp (502 PS) Stingray, rather than the Z06, which recently landed in Japanese showrooms, or the E-Ray hybrid that has yet to make the trip across the Pacific, but they get special paint and trim combinations that help them stand out from the base C8 crowd.
First up is the Limited Racing Style Edition that comes in either Hypersonic Gray or Arctic White and features contrasting blue or red interior highlights. Go for the white option and you'll stand out thanks to a pair of full-length red stripes and Midnight Gray forged 20-inch wheels, but pick the stealthier gray body color and those stripes are delivered in a more low-key black and the rims are painted gloss black to match. Both versions get a carbon rear spoiler and mirror caps, plus red calipers.
Don't like stripes? Then maybe you'd prefer the Limited Sport Style Edition in either yellow or black, each landing with jet black Nappa leather and microfiber upholstery and 20-inch wheels, again in either gloss black or gray with a red stripe.
The two Corvette models are each available to order as a coupe or convertible, and prices vary depending on the grade and body style chosen. The most affordable of the bunch is the coupe version of the Limited Sport Style Edition at ¥14.7 million ($104,000), while at the other end of the scale a Limited Racing Style Edition Convertible will set you back ¥18.4 million ($130,000).
