NMCA Plans Visit To VLA

Just a peek as to what you will see on the cruise to the Very Large Array (consisting of
27 dish-shaped antennas that are connected together to form a single large radio
telescope, arranged in a Y configuration).
We will be leaving from the American Furniture parking lot on the corner of Menaul
and Carlise at 8:00am Sunday, March 30th. We will proceed south on I-25 to
Socorro. We will exit I-25 at Socorro (approximately 70 miles) and proceed through
town to US60 West. Approximately 50 miles on US 60 to Highway 52 and the array
(http://www.vla.nrao.edu).
Once we arrive at the array we will watch a short video presentation and have a guided
tour describing radio astronomy and the remarkable VLA telescope. The tour will take
approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours. After the tour and picture taking we will head back to
Socorro and have lunch at Socorro Springs Restaurant and Brewery. To see the place and
view their menu check out (http://www.socorrosprings.com) Food is excellent!
So mark your calendar and let me know if you plan on attending...its going to be a fun
day so get that baby out of the garage and drive it!
